Two timings in one life
The natal chart is karma already formed. Dasha is karma ripening now, usually counted from the Moon's nakshatra.
You can have a kind Jupiter in the ninth and still be in a Saturn period that asks for work and patience. You can have a sharp Mars and be in a Venus period that favours company and ease. People often come to a reading when a dasha has turned, because the old way of living no longer fits. The question is not whether karma is real. It is which chapter you have entered.
