One graha among nine
In Western tropical astrology the Sun sign became the public face of a horoscope. In Vedic astrology the Sun is one graha among nine, read in a sidereal sign, in a house counted from the lagna, in a nakshatra, and in a dasha.
It still matters. Soul, father, authority, confidence, and the wish to be seen are solar themes. They are not the whole janam kundli. A personal Vedic reading that stopped at the Sun would be treating Jyotish as if it were a sun-sign column.
Why your Vedic Sun sign can differ
The sidereal zodiac and the tropical zodiac have drifted by more than twenty degrees. Your Vedic Sun sign, the rashi of the Sun in a janam kundli, is often the sign before the one you have said all your life.
This is not an error in the chart. It is two maps of the same sky, one aligned to the stars and one aligned to the seasons. People search why my Vedic sign is different from my Western sign and land on this fact. The Sun's position did not change. The two systems start from different points. Jyotish uses the sidereal zodiac. VedicAstrology.com works only in that system.
The Sun by house, not only by sign
A Sun in the first house affects the body and how you present yourself. A Sun in the tenth favours work that can be seen.
A Sun in the twelfth can make the same drive less public, or spend it in places that do not show. When the Sun rules a house, that part of life is trying to be recognised. Questions about father, government, vitality, eyes, and respect often involve the Sun. They still need the rest of the kundli. A weak Sun with a strong lagna lord is a different chart from a strong Sun with a difficult Moon.
Include the Sun, then read the rest of the chart
The reading still names the Sun. Direction, work, and this period of your life come from the whole chart: lagna, Moon, nakshatras, dasha, and the other grahas.
You bring the moment you were born. The sidereal kundli is calculated. You ask. The Sun is part of the answer. It is not the whole answer.
