None of that is a curse with one meaning. The lagna, the Moon, and the dasha decide which part of life feels the friction.
Conjunction is not the only meeting

A tenth-house Mars under Saturn's glance can describe a career that is built slowly and then lasts. Mars in the sixth with Saturn elsewhere can describe conflict that has to be worked, not won in a week. The same two grahas in kendras from the lagna do not mean the same as they do in dushthanas. The house is the subject. The grahas are the tone.
Dasha names when the meeting gets loud
A natal Mars-Saturn pattern can sit quietly for years, then speak when Mars or Saturn runs a mahadasha or antardasha, or when one of them transits the other's natal place.
That is why a general article cannot tell you whether this year is the year. Gochara and dasha have to be read against your own kundli. Fear of the pairing is old. Magazine writing reduced it to misfortune. A reading that only repeats that word has not looked at sign, house, or timing.
