Start with janma rashi
Find the sidereal sign of the natal Moon. That sign is house one from Chandra.
The next sign is house two, and so on around twelve. Saturn in the sign before the Moon, in the Moon's sign, and in the sign after it is the well-known Sade Sati count. Jupiter in the second, fifth, seventh, ninth, or eleventh from the Moon is classically kinder than Jupiter in the sixth, eighth, or twelfth. The table is a start. It is not the whole reading.
Then check lagna, dasha, and whether the transit is blocked
The same transiting graha is also counted from the lagna. A Saturn transit that is hard from the Moon may fall in a helpful house from the rising sign, or the other way round.
Dasha still decides how much authority the transit has. A loud Saturn gochara in a Venus mahadasha is one story. The same transit in a Saturn dasha is another. Classical texts also describe vedha: another planet occupying a blocking house can stop a good transit from delivering, or soften a hard one. Ashtakavarga is a further check of how many benefic points a transiting planet has in that sign. You do not need those names to ask a question here. The calculation uses the natal chart they belong to.
Slow grahas set the chapter
Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu, and Ketu stay long enough to change a season. Mars, the Sun, Mercury, and Venus colour weeks and months inside that season.
Determining gochara well means naming the slow ones first, then seeing what the fast ones trigger. A general column that lists every planet in every sign equally has not learned the pace of the sky.
Why a personal chart is still required
The method above can be learned from an article. The result for your life cannot.
The Moon's sign, the lagna, and the dasha running now are facts of one birth. VedicAstrology.com calculates those from date, time, and place, then you ask about the job, move, partnership, or health question you are in. A longer essay on transits sits with the current articles.
